Where did the WeAreTeachers idea originate?

Most of us associated with the WeAreTeachers idea have a long history of working in and around teaching, training, and learning in general. We all agree that teachers -- whether they teach thrid grade reading, high school math, yoga, or piano lessons --- are incredibly important to our culture and our world. But our modern society simply does not tangibly reward their work.
