Digital Learning- YIPPEE

This has been such an amazing summer of learning! I have learned about LoTi, RSS things (obviously still learning about these thingies), different training modules, and now more and more about digital learning. This week, I am attending a conference on digital learning! While I have had some experience with this in the past, I have learned so much already in just the two days that I cannot even think about where to start! What an incredible world our children have to explore! Many call it "Fi…

Gratitude

I have been thinking a lot about GRATITUDE. We all have things that we should be grateful for and focusing on them allows us to remember the positive as opposed to the negative. So often we get bogged down in the things that don't work or are causing us strain. If we would start by remembering the good in our lives the difficult things move more smoothly and often come with unexpected support.

As I begin to focus my attentions on the upcoming school year, I have been reflecting fir…

LoTi, LoTi- what will they think of next?

After attending my first day of training to become a LoTi Certified Mentor I am left feeling both exhillerated and exhausted. The ideas are so strong and solid both in innovation as well as instruction. Yet, as I made my way home I thought about the necessary steps to implement this project. LoTi (Levels of Technology Integration) focuses on higher level thinking skills and grounds itself with the notion (and research) that if technology is integrated into instruction, children will perform a…

Another year down

As the school year comes to a close I find myself reflecting even more these days. Each May I tend to set some goals for myself over the summer. This year, I am having some difficulty. It's not that I can't establish the goals it's that there are too many and I am having trouble narrowing my fields of interest etc. I would love it if you guys would give me some feedback. Here are the things I am most interested in learning and developing this summer: digital graphics, web 2.0, and online communi…

Alison...I think we all have to take a good look at the research and realize the VAST majority of Internet users are "lurkers" for lack of a better (2.0) word. Not only that, but when given the choice between TV, an iPod, family, or whatever, many times READING, THINKING and PARTICIPATING in the very nature of Web 2.0 takes a back seat...How many times have we heard the..."but I don't have TIME to do that" lament?

I encourage you to encourage those around you, but know that they may not have a current culture of use...and that we'll have to give that to them before we'll get the buy in we need to make other things happen, and change occur! I'm right there with you!

You create a wiki and start posting on it. Drag them kiicking and screaming! I started a PB Wiki for a discussion group and only about half of the members were game to gove it a go....none of them were in IT or anything resembling it. It just takes time. Be patient young Grasshopper.....change is tough and paradigm shifts are long run endeavors, This one is moving fairly quickly it seems.....it's just like everything else.....it is all a matter of persepective.

Well, after a long weekend with family and friends, I have really seen the lack of understanding about technology and its recent advancements. No one in my family understands wikis, networking communities or really anything web 2.0 and while my understanding is just developing I certainly thought that my younger siblings knew more about it than I did... they have my pages so what the heck! Each of fam member was like web 2.0- what is that? I couldn't believe what I was hearing... two of them work in the IT field!!! Something is missing... how do we address this????

I don't see any reason we couldn't collaborate on training and on creating lessons for our respective campuses. Of course the assests will be different, but the ideas don't have to be. You rest up and let's become real working pals next year! Have a great summer!

Kenneth- right on! I too am looking to learn as much as I can about the Adobe Creative Suite so that I can utilize it in my position. It won't be on the same app level as you because our placements are different, but I would LOVE to think of ways to partner up and build something that joins the Secondary levels with the Elementary ones... USE THAT GREAT HAT OF YOURS AND THINK!!!

This has been my story and song and dilemma all year long! I am focusing on too many things. Every time I try to simply my life I end up complicating it further. For my goals this summer, I am going to learn the core Adobe applications that were covered at the Region 4 Sales Job: Acrobat 8.0, Photoshop, Premeir/Elements. I want to be able to teach their application and create and implement lessons using them. I am going to continue my experiement in Open Source applications, but I am gonna hold my self back and slow down. I am playing around with a PB wiki with a discussion group I am involved in and I can see that there are significant learning curves to navigate - and this is really simple stuff. Believe me, if I say it is simple - it's SIMPLE!
I want to Moodle and GoogleApps so bad I can taste it, but my campuses are just not ready for it and when the truth hits the fan, neither am I. I plan to attend the TCEA Summer Technologist Camp and just rethink how I can be the most effective where I am, not where I want to be. I also plan to do a fair share of thinking, reading and writing and writing a lot about my reqading and thinking! I wish you the best in your focusing efforts!
