Frances Rinehart's Profile

Frances Rinehart (Dallaslady)
Hometown:
Originally Chattanooga, TN, now Carrollton, TX
About Me:
I'm happily married with 2 sons, one daughter-in-law, 3 step-daughters, 4 step-grandchildren and 6 great-step-grandchildren and a Maltese named Elvis!

In college I studied both piano (as a major) and choral music, studying under Glenn Draper with whom I had the opportunity to travel to Europe twice, once on a two week tour and once on a 9-week USO tour.

I began college as a Spanish major, making great grades, but I was torn between my love of the Spanish language and wanting to travel and my love of music. I chose music in my sophomore year, and it's funny how life can bring you right back to where you started. I taught music for two years in Geogia, then moved to Illinois while my (then) husband worked on his masters degree in clarinet from Robert Marcellus. They weren't hiring teachers, so God opened another door for me. I began my career as a Legal Assistant which continued for almost 18 years.

During my time in Evanston, however, I studied piano with Marian Marcellus and sang with the Northwestern Community Choir. I also performed in numerous local musical theater productions (Winnetka Community Theater) and was the choral director for the Evanston YMCA Brillianteen production of "Bye, Bye, Birdie."

After moving back to Tennessee, I continued my legal work and then ended up in Irving, Texas when my (then) husband got a job as an Assistant Band Director. Still working in a law firm, I decided to apply for a teaching job in Irving, just in case, and three days later I was offered a job because an opening had JUST opened (in November???). Another one of "God's" jobs! Haha... And, 3/4 of my classes were BL. I asked what that meant...hehe....lo and behold, I was back to my first love. I started taking courses to refresh my Spanish. Six years later I was asked to "help out" with attaining the Blue Ribbon for our school by teaching "Spanish" temporarily. That lasted 4 years, during which time I pass my Bilingual Excet test, the TOPT and received my Bilingual certification and NOW, I'm officially a bilingual music teacher with K-12 certification in music education and elementary bilingual classroom certification. As I said, it's funny how life can bring you full circle like that. I feel like I'm having my cake and eating it too! haha..

I currently am teaching bilingual music K-5 in Irving, Texas. I am a member of TMEA, TCDA and ADK, have co-published a music compilation with composer Jill Gallina entitled ¡Canten, Amigos! and have also worked on the transcribing and translation in a recently published book "Alabanzas Poderosas" both of which were published by Shawnee Press.

I enjoy reading, riding horses, scuba diving and singing in local opries (country music, my friends), as well as traveling, fishing and reading! Oh...my ONE vice? I love playing Texas Hold 'em on Pogo! Haha....

About the first three music pieces on my page...

Ok, my son (Michael) would probably kill me if he knew I posted these. He is SO picky about his work. Quite honestly....I don't think ANYTHING is going to be heard if he doesn't just get it out there! Actually...these HAVE been heard, so I feel justified in posting them. I like them (he doesn't) and just wanted to share them. Are they perfect (musically)? Probably not. Do they show creativity and potential? Absolutely! Isn't that what teaching is all about? Whether the student is related or i…

Dr. Frias, thank you so much! I feel very complimented that you would remember meeting me. I appreciate your invitation and look forward to (hopefully) being able to contribute what I can, but also learning much more from those with many more years of experience. I look forward to being in your group! Thanks, again! Have a wonderful "new" school year!

Thank you very much, Kenneth! I'm glad you like my rendition of Patsy's song. My son has to receive the accolades for the doing the recording (and this was just a draft, we never had time to finish it for my Mom...my greatest fan other than my husband...haha).

Hey, LOVE the pic! I think I should add a hat, too! Definitely adds personality!

Thanks, Frank! Wish a little "pitch fix" could have been used...haha...and hope you liked "country" music (always blows my kids minds that they don't recognize my voice). Absolutely, you will see me at TMEA. Hope to be presenting next year. I usually don't miss it, but especially next year (keeping fingers crossed). Thanks, again, for the compliment!

Frances -- WELCOME! WOW! Love your voice! John is right -- singing is my passion -- I do some church music (choir), and a bit of cabaret (sometimes at local nursing homes --- they are an easy audience for this amateur). But I'm afraid I'm not in your league. Thanks for joining us! You've spiced up our community with your sweet sounds! Welcome-- and keep singing!

Your son can probably make anybody sound good, but that talent comes from above. I would definitely download and buy your music... Thanks for joining. I forwarded your community page to my supervisor, Sandy Fivecoat, she's the founder of WeAreTeachers, her passion is singing and will enjoy chatting with you and sharing music. Thanks for being a part of the network... P.S. my voice can bring folks to their knees.... it's that bad.
